The Woods And The Trees
Welcome to my newsletter about growing my business and building a creative career.
After 15 or so years of writing newsletters for other people, I decided to create one for myself. And those who want to read about what I am up at work, how the business is going, and what I’m learning about marketing.
Here’s what’s going on right now:
Money is on my mind: I’ve just paid my second tax bill as a business owner and as I go into my third year of business I want to get better at putting money aside regularly and building a buffer. My five-year-old laptop is on the way out, which is prompting me to think about this upcoming big purchase and how I fund this in the future.
I’m planning a holiday: I didn’t go on holiday or take a significant break for my first two years in business. I took a few weeks off in March and I am planning another few weeks off in September. My brain feels sluggish and I can’t wait.
Zero-click content: This is a concept I recently came across via the wonderful Amanda Natividad. This is about putting the good stuff upfront and easy to find, with no clicking to get more information. Clunky customer journeys and gated content never sat well with me, so I love the idea of this approach and I’ve been playing around with it on LinkedIn.
I’m thinking about what format this newsletter should take. The marketer in me wants a name, a structure and a schedule but the creative side is winning over by just seeing how it goes and how people respond. If there’s anything in particular you want to know about, let me know.
